Drinking Water Week is May 1-7

There when you need it.

At the April 26 City Council meeting Cocoa issued a proclamation declaring May 1-7 as Drinking Water Week. For more than 40 years the American Water Works Association and its members have celebrated Drinking Water Week. This is a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives. Tap water is important for public health protection, fire protection, support for our economy and the quality of life that we all enjoy. We are all stewards of the water infrastructure upon which future generations depend.

Drinking Water Week is an opportunity to recognize the hard work performed by the entire water sector. Cocoa recognizes the contributions and hard work of the engineers designing capital projects, the operators ensuring the safety and quality of our drinking water, and the members of the pipe crews maintaining the infrastructure that communities rely on to transport high quality drinking water from its source to consumers’ taps.

Every day, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, dedicated men and women are on the job keeping the water flowing. This year the theme is "There when you need it".
