The Volunteer Citizens Observer Program (VCOPs) began in 1999 to enhance the police department's delivery of services by allowing enthusiastic, dependable, committed people to work alongside CPD officers. The VCOPs are trained in many areas including:
Issuing Parking Citations
Police Radio Procedures
Secure Crime Scenes
The unit handles over fifty special details per year.
Qualifications for the program are:
Have no felony convictions
Posses a valid Florida Drivers License
Be in good health
Be of good moral character
Be at least 18 years of age
Willing to volunteer at least 8 hours per month
