The City of Cocoa will once again be holding it’s Citizens Academy beginning October 11, 2021. The program, which is designed to better engage residents and business owners with their local government, consists of 10 classes and is open to all Cocoa residents and business or property owners interested in learning more about the functions and services provided by their local government.
Applications are due no later than September 1, 2021.
Class size is limited to the first twenty (20) applicants. The goal of the program is to educate and engage Cocoa residents and business owners so they become active stakeholders in their community.
“Citizens academies are an excellent way to educate residents, build positive relationships and increase communication between city government officials and citizens, as well as inspire future municipal leaders,” Florida League of Cities.
The 10-week program begins with a welcome and introduction to municipal government, City Council, the City Manager, public records, communications and Leisure Services. Other department overviews will include Utilities, including a tour of the Dyal Water Treatment Facility, the Fire and Police Departments, Community Services, Public Works, Finance, Emergency Management and Community Engagement. Participants will conclude the program with a special graduation ceremony at the April 12, 2022 Cocoa City Council Meeting.
